Dog hater laid out poisoned bait in Schleedorf

A dog hater is probably up to mischief in Schleedorf in Salzburg's Flachgau region. Dog owners had already filed a complaint in August: they found a suspicious piece of sausage with a greenish filling on their property...

The Pfotenhilfe association, via the head of the legal and communications department, Jürgen Stadler, announced: "However, the public prosecutor's office did not want to have the suspected poisoned bait investigated for cost reasons." The couple concerned then contacted the Pfotenhilfe association in the neighboring municipality of Lochen.

The suspicious item was sent to a toxicology laboratory. The result is now available: "Residues of coumatetralyl were found, which is contained in commercially available mouse and rat bait preparations!" The report will now be forwarded to the criminal investigation department.

Children are also at risk
Jürgen Stadler says: "The authorities must take such serious cases of attempted cruelty to animals and killing seriously! The penalty for this is a two-year prison sentence. We urgently ask the public for information - anonymously if necessary - about the dangerous perpetrator." Wild animals and children at play, for example, in whom this dangerous chemical can trigger serious symptoms of poisoning, are also at risk.

The poisoned bait was found in Schleedorf behind the former cheese dairy. Pfotenhilfe is asking dog owners who live in Schleedorf or take their dogs for a walk to be particularly careful.
