Apprenticeship with variety at voestalpine

Luca is completing a mechanical engineering technician apprenticeship at voestalpine in Böhlerwerk. He is already in the last year of his apprenticeship and finds shift work quite varied.

"Yes, I like shift work, it allows me to organize my free time more flexibly. The nice thing about my apprenticeship is that I get to work in different departments. Not only have I got to know a wide variety of machines, but also many colleagues. I'm often out and about in the production area, grinding rollers or finalizing," says Luca.

Friends supported him in his decision to start his career at voestalpine. "I know a few people who work at voestalpine. I attended two taster days, took an entrance test and was accepted."

"Three-dimensional thinking is very easy for me. I can recognize problems and errors quickly."

Reading construction and assembly plans and carrying out maintenance and servicing work on systems are just as much a part of the job of a mechanical engineering technician as manufacturing workpieces and components. "Every day is varied," says Luca, describing his day-to-day work. "We produce a lot of workpieces ourselves to get the machines up and running again. That's what I like about the work." After completing his apprenticeship, Luca will do his community service and then wants to do his master's degree at voestalpine.
