Upper Austria is becoming the land of award-winning chefs

For the chefs in the region, the presentation of the Gault&Millau is as eagerly awaited as the distribution of school reports or the results of a university exam. Since Monday evening, the secret for 2025 has been revealed. Find out who was awarded and where you can eat particularly well in Upper Austria here.

Top secret - that was the Gault&Millau 2025 test results until they were presented on Monday evening. What immediately caught the eye: Upper Austria is increasingly becoming a toque-awarded province. Two years ago, 51 restaurants were still playing in the premier league, but in the new gourmet bible there are already 58 kitchens that have been awarded toques.

An unchanged picture at the top
Where do gourmets get their money's worth? Compared to the previous year, the picture at the top in Upper Austria is unchanged: Lukas Nagl, Chef of the Year 2023, secured four toques and 18.5 points for the Bootshaus in Traunkirchen - as did Philip Rachinger for the Mühltalhof in Neufelden.

Hot on their heels are Maximilian Schellerer (Tanglberg in Vorchdorf), Manuel Grabner (Der Holzpoldl in Lichtenberg), Lukas Kienbauer (Lukas Restaurant in Schärding), Klemens Gold (Rau in Großraming) and Pascal Dallarosa (Rossbarth in Linz). Top chef Helmut Rachinger can also celebrate: the man who currently puts his stamp on Fernruf 7 in Neufelden shares the award for lifetime achievement with Markus Mraz and Sepp Schellhorn.

816 establishments in Austria were awarded toques in the new Gault&Millau 2025, 58 of which are in Austria. Seven establishments were awarded four toques:

• Ois in Neufelden: Philip Rachinger
• Tanglberg in Vorchdorf: Maximilian Schellerer
• Der Holzpoldl in Lichtenberg near Linz: Manuel Grabner
• Lukas Restaurant in Schärding: Lukas Kienbauer
• Rau in Großraming: Klemens Gold
• Rossbarth in Linz: Pascal Dallarosa

Sommelier of the year
There was also plenty of praise for Upper Austrian cuisine outside of the kitchen: Katharina Gnigler from Rutzenmoos is an absolute wine professional, has also worked in Copenhagen and London and has been Head of Wine and Service at the Gröller Group on Lake Traunsee for just over a year. She has now been named Sommelière of the Year in Gault&Millau.

• Göttfried in Linz: Christian Göttfried
• Kliemstein Vino Vitis in Linz: Andreas Zika
• Muto in Linz: Werner Traxler
• Poll's Kaiserterrasse in St. Wolfgang: Hermann Poll
• s' Paul Restaurant in Traunkirchen: Paul Wieder

Speaking of fine wines: Das Bräu from Nußdorf am Attersee received an award for the wine list of the year with a focus on Austria, while Stiegl-Gut Wildshut in the municipality of St. Pantaleon impressed with the beer list of the year.

Gasthaus Seebauer on Lake Gleinkersee received a Future Award, which is intended to bring ecological visionaries to the fore.
