Four-year-old killed in Vienna: Mother now in custody

The victim, who is only four years old, is said to have suffered several stab wounds and cuts on Sunday. The suspect is the son's own mother - detention has been ordered.

After the murder of a four-year-old boy in Vienna-Favoriten on Sunday morning, the victim's mother is now in custody. It was only on Monday morning that new details about the horrific bloody deed became known. The child suffered several cuts and stab wounds. 

After the preliminary autopsy results of the four-year-old were announced on Monday, the mother was remanded in custody. The 29-year-old was briefly questioned by a magistrate in a hospital on Monday. The woman confessed to the alleged offense, court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn announced on Monday evening. Salzborn said that there was a risk of imprisonment.

Seeking help for mental health problems
The woman is probably mentally ill. According to police spokeswoman Julia Schick, the suspect had already sought help for mental health problems. A forensic psychiatrist must now clarify what these problems were. A homicide investigation has been launched. The young Turkish woman also had self-inflicted injuries. There was no danger to her life.

The father has already been questioned. He was the one who called the police to the apartment in the apartment building. According to spokeswoman Schick, what exactly happened beforehand is still under investigation by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Southern Branch.
