Drunk mother crashes with child in car

The title "Mother of the Week" is not enough. A woman from Mühlviertel got behind the wheel of her car with her young son in it, even though she was drunk. What happened was inevitable: the car ended up in a ditch. Fortunately, a courageous witness came to the aid of mother and child.

The 35-year-old mother from St. Thomas am Blasenstein was driving on Klamer Straße in Münzbach when she drove straight ahead in a slight right-hand bend at around 3.45 pm. Her five-year-old son was sitting in the passenger seat when the Audi crashed over the steep embankment, overturned and came to rest on its roof in the ditch on the "opposite slope".

While the boy was able to climb out of the wreckage, his mother was trapped inside. Fortunately, a passer-by saw the car lying in the ditch and immediately raised the alarm. When the fire department arrived, the mother had already been freed. The courageous helper had stayed with mother and son, looking after them the whole time.

Crane for rescue
After receiving emergency medical treatment, both were taken to hospital. However, the driver had to take a breathalyzer test first - and it showed a blood alcohol level of just over 1.5 per mille. The fire department had to call in the crane to recover the badly demolished vehicle.
