Grazer AK were able to celebrate an important victory on Sunday and rescue themselves from the bottom of the Austrian Bundesliga table. The Styrians defeated Blau-Weiß Linz 2:1 after trailing 1:0 - despite being outnumbered from the 60th minute onwards.

GAK continued their upward trend in the Bundesliga and left the bottom of the table for the first time in two months. The promoted team celebrated their second win of the season with a 2:1 (1:1) at Blau-Weiß Linz on Sunday and handed the red lantern to SCR Altach. Christian Lichtenberger (41') and Tio Cipot (47') turned the game around for Graz, who were outnumbered from the 60th minute onwards. Thomas Goiginger (30) had given the home side the lead.

The 5,500 fans in the sold-out stadium on the Donaulände saw Gerald Scheiblehner's team have more possession, but GAK had more promising chances near the penalty area with quick counter-attacks. Blue & White took the lead with their first chance. After a wonderful combination, Alexander Schmidt crossed for Goiginger, who scored his second goal of the season.

GAK turned the game around
GAK equalized in the 41st minute. The strong Lichtenberger headed in a cross from Benjamin Rosenberger to make it 1:1. The visitors took the lead shortly after the restart. After a throw-in, Daniel Maderner broke away down the right flank and Cipot pushed his low cross over the line.

After an hour, GAK weakened themselves. Milos Jovicic was sent off after a foul on Ronivaldo and a VAR check (60'). Linz, who had been so strong at home up to that point, piled on the pressure but struggled to create chances against the compact Graz defense. Two weeks after their opening win against WSG Tirol, the Graz Athletiker celebrated their next victory, picking up eight points from their last four games.
