Loot from Linz bank robbery turns up in Vienna

Dozens of officers were deployed on September 30th in connection with the bank robbery

There was a major alarm in Linz on September 30th after the Sparkasse bank in Linz's Leonfeldnerstraße was robbed by two young men. The two perpetrators were caught a few hours later nearby, but the loot and some other items had disappeared from the face of the earth - until now!

On September 30, a Viennese (18) and a Hungarian (19) had traveled from the Austrian capital to Linz-Urfahr to rob a bank. In their luggage: masks and a firearm. The two young men fled through a park into a nearby wooded area, where they were arrested a few hours later by special units and Cobra.

What did not turn up, however, was the sum of money that had been taken. In the course of the investigations, the officers from Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Vienna came across a 24-year-old stateless man from Vienna, who is said to have acted as a designated offender (someone who deliberately causes another person to commit a criminal act). A house search had already taken place on November 14, during which not the wanted person but the loot and some items connected with the crime were discovered.

Shortly afterwards, however, the 24-year-old was also caught by the officers: he was spotted as a passenger in a car and arrested by Cobra a short time later. The driver of the vehicle was also taken into custody because he is strongly suspected of facilitation and money laundering as well as being a contributory offender, but has not confessed. During the arrests, further cash holdings came to light. The two suspects are being held in prisons in Linz and Vienna.
