Bank robbery in Kufstein: manhunt for perpetrator

The series of bank robberies in Tyrol continues unabated: late Thursday morning, a bank in the fortress town of Kufstein was robbed. The armed perpetrator managed to escape. A manhunt was launched, but was unsuccessful.

As the police reported in response to a "Krone" inquiry, a savings bank branch in Kufstein was robbed late on Thursday morning at around 11.20 am. "The perpetrator was armed with a pistol and wearing a mask," said the investigators. He threatened the employees with the firearm and demanded cash in English.

The perpetrator then ran out of the bank and fled on foot in an easterly direction, according to the investigators. The rather slim stranger was wearing light-colored jeans and a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with the word "California" on it, white shoes, a dark mask and dark gloves. He is probably between 1.70 and 1.80 meters tall.

The masked perpetrator, armed with a pistol, entered the branch, threatened the employees with the firearm and then demanded cash.

A manhunt was immediately launched in and around Kufstein. Heavily armed police officers check important traffic routes and highway entrances and exits. This has so far been unsuccessful. However, further investigations are underway at the scene.

A whole series of bank robberies in Tyrol
In Tyrol, and particularly in Innsbruck, nine bank robberies have already taken place within a year. Several suspects have since been arrested.

For example, a duo arrested at the beginning of July after a bank robbery in Innsbruck was also suspected of being responsible for two further robberies at bank branches in the provincial capital in March and April, according to the public prosecutor's office.

A coup at the beginning of September, when an initially unknown perpetrator robbed a "cashless" bank on Innsbruck's Mitterweg, was a curiosity. At the end of October, a Russian was identified as the suspect.

The series of bank robberies in Tyrol also began in Kufstein. Banks were robbed in the fortress town in November 2023 and January 2024. In January, the same Sparkasse branch was affected as the one on Thursday.
