Carer led police in Vienna to arsenal of weapons!

Thanks to a nurse, the Vienna police were able to seize a huge arsenal of weapons in a house in Liesing on Wednesday. The woman was supposed to be routinely checking on the tenant (85) when a violent incident suddenly occurred. The woman then made an emergency call ...

It was around 1.30 p.m. when the woman raised the alarm. The 85-year-old is said to have suddenly pulled out a knife and threatened the nurse with it. The woman then fled the house and called the police. 

Over 200 weapons hoarded
During the investigation, officers were able to find the man in the house. They also came across an incredible discovery in the premises: the 85-year-old is said to have stockpiled around 200 long guns, several handguns, swords, ammunition and black powder (see photo) in his home. "Everything was seized by the police", police spokeswoman Julia Schick announced.

A provisional weapons ban was issued against the 85-year-old Austrian. The man is also being investigated on suspicion of coercion.

Custody of firearms § 16b acc.

"Firearms and ammunition must be kept in safe custody. The Federal Minister of the Interior is authorized to issue more detailed regulations on the requirements for safe storage so that weapons and ammunition are reasonably protected against unauthorized access."

According to the KFV (Austrian Road Safety Board), there is no explicit upper limit for the number of weapons owners are allowed to keep at home. However, all weapons subject to registration must be entered in the Central Weapons Register. There are currently more than 1.43 million (as of 2023) weapons subject to registration in Austria.
