Camille Rast took advantage of the absence of injured slalom stars Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova to take her maiden World Cup victory. The Swiss racer came out on top in the Killington slalom on Sunday ahead of Anna Swenn-Larsson from Sweden (+0.57 seconds) and her compatriot Wendy Holdener (+0.57 seconds). The most promising ÖSV skiers fell back in the final. Katharina Liensberger was once again the best Austrian in ninth place (+1.56).

Katharina Huber was unable to capitalize on fifth place from the first run and finished 13th, while Katharina Truppe (11th) also dropped four places. Half-time leader Lena Dürr finished fourth. The German was 3/100ths off the podium. Melanie Meillard was the next Swiss racer to finish directly behind her.

"Everything I've done this summer is showing now. We all did a great job together," said Rast on ORF. She had competed in fewer mountain bike races than usual in the summer and focused more on physical preparation, said the 25-year-old. "There are little things I can still improve on, I'm really happy."

After her third podium finish in a row, Rast even took over the overall World Cup lead from Shiffrin, who was unable to compete after her wild off in Saturday's giant slalom. Shiffrin had risked a lot on the way to her 100th World Cup victory in her home race. She suffered a deep wound to her abdomen, which could not be stitched because it was too deep and there was a risk of infection, the US federation announced. No damage to ligaments, bones or organs was found.

Shiffrin's return date open
The date of her return is open. If the super-G in Beaver Creek in two weeks' time is not possible, the US American could attack her anniversary victory at the technical races in Semmering (December 28/29). Her long-time rival Vlhova is still working on her comeback after suffering setbacks following a cruciate ligament rupture.

Five Austrians in the points
The ÖSV technicians clearly missed out on a third podium of the season in the end. With five skiers in the top 25, the team managed to respond to the disappointing Saturday, when only Ricarda Haaser (8th) finished in the points. Nevertheless, the aftertaste was bitter in view of the starting position of Huber, Truppe and Liensberger at half-time.

The Katharina trio were unable to attack, leaving them with two podium places in five races this season. "I wanted to attack, but it was too faulty. It was just a difficult day for me after what happened yesterday," said Liensberger, who suffered a bruised rib from her giant slalom crash.

"I wanted to show what I'm capable of, but I didn't manage to get the skis to move," said Huber after finishing 20th. Truppe was also unable to improve on what was initially her best run of the season. "I was too good on the line, you really lose a lot of time," said the Carinthian. "There's a lot of time in Semmering, we'll have to work on that."

Lisa Hörhager (22nd) scored points for the third time in her 17th career slalom. Franziska Gritsch (25th) returned to this discipline after six unsuccessful attempts. For Katharina Gallhuber, her only appearance on the US East Coast came to an end after just a few seconds of skiing.
