Brutal attack: Perpetrators push man into Vienna river

The emergency services found the man completely soaked, with abrasions and redness on his face.

A 39-year-old man was the victim of a brutal attack in Vienna's Stadtpark on Saturday evening. Two strangers snatched his cell phone and loudspeaker, threw him into the Wien River and attacked him again when he tried to save himself. The perpetrators fled and the victim was taken to hospital with injuries.

A sad incident of extreme violence for no apparent reason occurred yesterday evening on the banks of the Wien River in Vienna's Stadtpark. A 39-year-old Romanian man was sitting on the steps by the river listening to music over a loudspeaker when two unknown men suddenly attacked him.

Perpetrators push man into the Wien River
First they allegedly snatched his cell phone and threw it into the Wien River. The loudspeaker was then taken from him. The man apparently demanded the speaker back, after which the situation escalated: The suspects punched and kicked him again and finally pushed him into the river.

Stones thrown at him and jukebox stolen
The man was able to escape to the riverbank, but the suspects ambushed him again. They are said to have thrown stones and then pushed him into the water again before fleeing in an unknown direction with the loudspeaker.

The Vienna police searched the area for the perpetrators, but without success. The completely soaked man with several abrasions and redness on his face was taken to hospital by the ambulance service with suspected bruises.
