Roof repair ended in escape and large-scale operation

Major operation in Seewalchen am Attersee: On Thursday evening, 13 fire departments arrived after a fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building. Around a dozen residents fled the building and the operation was very complex.

Apparently during scarfing work on the roof, which according to witnesses was being repaired, a smouldering fire had started in the structure and spread rapidly. The alarm was raised at around 2.15 p.m. and the fire brigades were gradually alerted.

More and more emergency services
In the meantime, around a dozen residents fled outside and watched as more and more fire departments - breathing apparatus wearers, emergency vehicles with lifting platforms - arrived. In the end, there were 13 fire brigades. From 9 p.m. onwards, the fire brigades gradually moved back in.

Extinguishing equipment from Upper Austria in action
In order to extinguish the flames that were spreading under the roof, the roof cladding also had to be broken open. The Drill-X extinguishing device invented for such operations in Upper Austria was also used.

Holding out in the cold
According to initial reports, no one was injured. The residents who had fled sought shelter in the warm after a while due to the cold; according to the Red Cross, no emergency shelters had to be opened.
