Shoplifters up to mischief in winter resorts

The police caught two shoplifters in Zell am See and Obertauern (Salzburg). In Zell, it was a 67-year-old German woman who was traveling on a coach and is already known to the authorities in her home country. In Obertauern, a Luxembourger was found to have been shoplifting in a sports store. 

At Christmas of all times, several shopkeepers from Zell am See had to alert the police. They were the victims of several shopliftings. The police quickly tracked down a 67-year-old German citizen and caught her in a sports store.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had stolen from three stores between 11:00 and 12:10. During a search of her handbag, items such as ski gloves, jeans and a rock crystal were seized. The woman had traveled by coach from Germany to Zell am See that same morning.

According to the German authorities, she has made several appearances for similar offenses. The 67-year-old woman will be reported to the Salzburg public prosecutor's office on suspicion of commercial theft.

A shoplifter was also tracked down in Obertauern. On December 26, the owner of a sports store reported the theft of a high-quality jacket worth 700 euros. The theft also occurred on December 24.

Thanks to extensive searches in the Obertauern ski area, the perpetrator, a 20-year-old man from Luxembourg, was stopped at the ski lift on December 26. He was wearing the branded jacket when the police stopped him. The accused confessed and paid for the damage. He will be reported to the Salzburg public prosecutor's office at large.
