Vienna: Group attack ends with brazen theft

After a group of five young men and one woman allegedly started an argument with a 34-year-old man in Vienna's Stadtpark on Thursday evening and threatened him with a knife, a friend tried to come to his aid. He then became the victim of theft: the group stole several alcoholic drinks from him.

A 34-year-old man got into an argument with a group consisting of five men and one woman aged between 16 and 21 for reasons as yet unexplained. A 20-year-old Austrian from the group is said to have threatened the 34-year-old with a knife.

When a 35-year-old friend of the man who was threatened first tried to help, the group stole several alcoholic drinks from him. After the crime, the suspects fled, whereupon the police were alerted.

In the course of a search operation, the group was stopped near the scene of the crime. The stolen goods were recovered from them and returned to their rightful owner. The 20-year-old who allegedly made the threat with the knife was provisionally arrested.

Another member of the group, a 16-year-old, behaved aggressively throughout the police operation and was arrested for administrative reasons after several unsuccessful warnings. The interrogations of all those involved are still pending. The 20-year-old is still in police custody. There were no injuries in the incident.
