Jolie spills the beans: Why separation from Pitt was necessary

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were Hollywood's dream couple for years. After an incident on board an airplane in which Brad Pitt and his eldest adopted son Maddox allegedly got into a violent argument, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. The Oscar winner has now explained for the first time in an interview why she had to make this painful decision.

Angelina Jolie is convinced that separating from Brad Pitt was the best thing for her family. In an interview with Indian "Vogue", she said that the divorce was for the good of her six children Maddox (18), Pax (16), Zahara (15), Shiloh (14), Knox and Vivienne (both 11).

The fact that she and her ex-husband Brad did not reveal any details about the reasons for their separation to the public has caused the rumor mill to run wild in recent years - and sometimes too wild, as Angelina continued in the interview: "Some have taken advantage of my silence, the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds. In fact, they are six very strong people."

Angelina also spoke about how important it is for her adopted kids to know their heritage. "They must never lose the connection to their origins. They have roots that you don't have. Honor them. Learn from them. It's a great journey together."
