Driver (62) lay drunk as a skunk next to his car

The license plate was still at the scene of the accident: When the police in Grein (Upper Austria) investigated the hit-and-run driver (62) after a property damage accident at night, he was lying drunk as a skunk next to his car.

At around 10.45 p.m. on Monday, a police patrol noticed a damaged street lamp at the junction of the B3 and the L573 in Grein. The license plate of the alleged hit-and-run driver was still in front of the lamppost. The vehicle was found parked at the registration address.

"Need for explanation"
The driver, a 62-year-old man from the district of Perg, was lying next to the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. According to his own statements, he had been driving his car but had not damaged anything. He was unable to explain how his license plate came to be at the scene of the accident or how the damage to his car came about.

Handed over to the care of his wife
After being asked to take a breathalyzer test, the 62-year-old had difficulty getting to his feet. After three unsuccessful attempts, the 62-year-old refused to take the breathalyzer test. After being legally informed that he had been reported to the police, he was handed over to his wife.
