BVB coach Nuri Sahin has to pack his bags

Now it's final: Borussia Dortmund has parted company with Nuri Sahin. The 2-1 defeat in the Champions League against Bologna on Tuesday evening was the straw that broke the camel's back and after four defeats in a row, the Black & Yellows have to look for a new coach.

Sahin took over as coach from Edin Terzic in mid-June, but seven months later the 36-year-old's adventure is already over. In recent weeks, the pressure on Sahin has grown steadily, and on Wednesday night BVB bosses are said to have appeared in front of the team to inform them of Sahin's departure.

Borussia Dortmund have yet to win a single game in the current calendar year and are only tenth in the Bundesliga table. Points are urgently needed to secure a place in the Champions League. Dortmund are convinced that the club cannot achieve this goal with Sahin. 

It hurts Ricken personally
"We really appreciate Nuri Sahin and his work, we wanted to work together for a long time and hoped until the end that we could turn things around together. However, after four defeats in a row, with just one win from the last nine games and currently tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith that we can still achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation," explained managing director Lars Ricken on the club's website. "This decision also hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna."

Sahin himself commented on the separation: "Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to Borussia Dortmund's sporting ambitions this season at this point in time. I wish this special club all the best."
