Blockade on the A13: activists face a hefty fine

After activists not only paralyzed Innsbruck's city centre last week, but also caused a dangerous blockade on the Tyrolean Brenner freeway (A13), the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office is now investigating the case. Attempted intentional endangerment of the community is being investigated.

Last Thursday, the Last Generation activists caused a dangerous incident on the A13. In the morning, they blocked the road in the area of the Europabrücke bridge. This could now have criminal consequences. As the APA reported in a press release, the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office is investigating the possible initial suspicion. Specifically, it is about the possible realization of the criminal offense of attempted, intentional endangerment of the public.

Other penalties are also possible. The police announced that they would describe the facts of the case to the authorities. The public prosecutor's office is now examining whether the initial suspicion was given or not. The filing of such a report is a "novelty", at least in Tyrol, it is said. In addition, it could also be considered grossly negligent endangerment of physical safety.

Traffic on the A13 initially slowed down
The activists were driving three cars on the Brenner highway last Thursday. The vehicles slowed down more and more before stopping on the Europabrücke bridge. Seven activists then sat down on the road. The traffic jam stretched all the way back to Innsbruck. According to the APA, not even a rescue lane remained free and the emergency vehicles could barely get through.

Last week, in response to the police's announcement, Letzte Generation declared that it was cooperating with the authorities and would bear the legal consequences. The three wanted drivers would report to the police "immediately" in order to "clarify the facts. The slow braking of the cars on the Europabrücke had been carefully planned and carried out in such a way that there was no danger to others," it was argued.
