Lara Gut-Behrami wins the last super-G before the World Ski Championships.

Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami won the last super-G before the World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (+0.35 seconds) and Italy's Federica Brignone (+0.38). Stephanie Venier was the best Austrian in the top ten. The race was characterized by many retirements of the ÖSV skiers: Mirjam Puchner, Cornelia Hütter and Ariane Rädler did not see the finish line. The latter crashed, but is unlikely to have been seriously injured.

Lara Gut-Behrami won the super-G in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and made a comeback in the last speed race before the World Championships with her first World Cup victory since March 2024. The Swiss skier was 0.35 seconds faster than Norway's Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, while the Italians led by Federica Brignone (+0.38) showed their low-flying qualities in the shade. For the Austrians, there is not much left of the elation at the start of the season before the World Championships of all things.

Stephanie Venier was the best ÖSV skier in ninth place (+1.13), Ricarda Haaser was 15th (+1.73). The cable car jump in the upper part of the course mutated into the Austrian hole. Cornelia Hütter, Ariane Rädler and Mirjam Puchner were all eliminated at this point.

Rädler flew off in spectacular fashion, but the Vorarlberg native quickly got back on her feet despite a spiral and somersault. Hütter and Puchner also missed the goal after a wave.

Only one podium place in six races
After six races with only one podium place (2nd Venier/St. Anton), the ÖSV women's speed team, which was believed to be so strong, is contesting the home highlight in the hunter's role. On the Kandahar, no one was able to make a decisive impression. Instead, the team was decimated by Nina Ortlieb, who crashed on Saturday. Head coach Assinger announced an elimination race in Saalbach.

Puchner, for example, will have to prove her gliding qualities on the Ulli Maier course before the medal decision. The sickly racer from Salzburg had a weekend to forget in Bavaria. After the line error, she was just a passenger on Sunday. "I realized that my condition would not allow me to react quickly." She now needs to recharge her batteries quickly.

Gut-Behrami is coming into form
Gut-Behrami, last year's overall World Cup winner, reduced the points deficit to 70 points compared to Brignone with the 46th World Cup victory of her career. "I don't want to say it's a relief, but it's a different kind of joy when you win and don't finish fourth or fifth." Her season had also started "strangely" due to an injury, and it was ultimately also a question of self-confidence. Winning is never a matter of course. "There are many who ski well."

Vonn in 13th place
As on the previous day (retirement), former champion Lindsey Vonn was unable to compete for the top places on one of her favorite courses in 13th place. Sofia Goggia finished in fourth place - once again behind Brignone.
