Oberpullendorf: Teaching on the pulse of time

Offerings such as IT and "Science" open up today's pupils to the challenges of tomorrow.

BG/BRG/BORG "Franz Liszt" opens up a clear view of the tasks of the present within the framework of school autonomy and points the way to the future with a wide range of educational opportunities.

The task of an AHS is to provide pupils with a comprehensive general education and to create the prerequisites for university studies. Oberpullendorf Grammar School is not content with this. The signs of the times are recognized there. "Society is evolving. In times of digitalization, AI, a rapidly changing world of work, climate catastrophes and many other unavoidable influences, the world of education is also facing enormous challenges," says Headmaster Markus Neuhold.

Promoting strengths
At the BG/BRG/BORG "Franz Liszt", new requirements are integrated into lessons. "Our students should be able to develop in all directions and find their individual strengths," emphasizes Neuhold. In addition to core skills such as languages, natural sciences, sport and creativity, the grammar school aims to create a direct link to the real world and promote interdisciplinary, networked thinking - including a wide range of additional qualifications.

Getting "fit"
Pupils have the opportunity to become "care fit", "baby fit", "finance fit", "democracy fit" and "media fit". They are rewarded with an entrepreneur's license, first aid courses or the establishment of a student cooperative. "Once the goal has been achieved, the pupils hold their certificates in their hands," praise the prudent teachers.

In the midst of life
Valuable contacts can be made thanks to cooperation with extracurricular organizations such as the Red Cross. "The pupils get involved, do something for society and benefit in their personal development," says Neuhold, referring to the values on which the grammar school places a particular focus. Apart from stays abroad via the Erasmus program, not only English and Spanish, but also Hungarian and Croatian strengthen the linguistic diversity. Neuhold: "Our lessons are at the heart of life."
