Hirscher on the end of his career: “I was burnt out!”

Late public confession from Marcel Hirscher: contrary to what has been mentioned from time to time in the past, Austria's former exceptional ski hero ended his first career due to complete exhaustion! "I was simply mentally and physically burnt out," says Hirscher, "I just couldn't do it anymore ..."

As the Salzburg native, who was rudely torn by a cruciate ligament on December 2nd, reported in the ORF program "Dok 1: Marcel", there was simply no other option than to stop.

On the one hand, he had been lucky that he had been spared injuries in the past, but he may also have lacked the time to reflect on all the sometimes incredible successes and let them sink in.

"It's cool what I've achieved ..."
It was only belatedly that he really realized what he had achieved in his first career, only belatedly that he was able to say to himself: "Cool, what I've achieved ..."

According to Hirscher, his comeback last fall definitely had to do with the fact that it actually took him five years to fully regain his mental and physical strength. He never lacked love or passion for the sport of skiing, but: "This 180-degree turnaround was absolutely necessary!"

"You don't train so much to do a bit of marketing!"
Incidentally, Hirscher rejected the accusation that he had only returned to the Ski World Cup to promote his own ski company. "If that was the motivation, you couldn't keep it up. You don't train so much to do a bit of marketing," said Hirscher.
