There will be a derby in Madrid, while Bayern will face Leverkusen.

Top-class duels in the round of 16 of the Champions League: defending champions Real Madrid face city rivals Atletico, Bayern Munich take on Bayer Leverkusen and top seeds Liverpool FC face Paris Saint-Germain in another round of 16 clash.

Borussia Dortmund, last year's second finalist, will face French club OSC Lille. Arsenal take on PSV Eindhoven, Inter Milan face Feyenoord, Aston Villa have been drawn against FC Brugge and FC Barcelona will also meet Benfica Lisbon. The first legs will take place on March 4/5, with the second legs a week later on March 11/12.

Due to the fixed seeding list (according to the final ranking in the league phase) and the arrangement in a grid, the other possible opponents for each team up to the final on May 31 in Munich have already been determined. The winner of PSG v Liverpool will play Aston Villa or Bruges in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, the "Reds" could face Arsenal or the two Madrid teams.

Bayern and Bayer face each other five times
Bayern and Leverkusen will play each other for the fourth and fifth time this season after two league duels and a cup match. The first leg will take place in Munich because Bayern fared worse in the group stage and had to take a detour via the play-off.

The two Bundesliga duels ended in draws. Leverkusen were clearly the better team in the 0-0 draw on the previous matchday. In the German Cup, Bayer won 1:0 in Munich. "It was clear to us that a top opponent was waiting," was the reaction of Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes. "Now it's Munich. Certainly a team we know well, but they also know us well. This is a round of 16 at a high level."

The Austrian faction at Bayern also commented after the draw. "We're playing two teams who know each other very well. In the Champions League, you always have to look from game to game, and that's exactly how we're approaching this task," said sporting director Christoph Freund. Midfielder Konrad Laimer was delighted with "an exciting draw".

Real and Atletico faced each other in the Champions League final in 2014 and 2016, with the "royals" emerging victorious on both occasions. The two teams are currently separated by just one point in the Spanish league, with Real and Austrian team captain David Alaba second behind Barcelona and just ahead of their city rivals. "We have a great rivalry. We're going to have a great game and we're ready for it," said Atleti coach Diego Simeone on Friday.

Lazio will take on Viktoria Pilsen in the Europa League round of 16 and would face Bodö/Glimt or Olympiakos Piraeus in the quarter-finals. Tottenham, with ÖFB defender Kevin Danso, will face AZ Alkmaar, while Eintracht Frankfurt will play Dutch top-flight club Ajax Amsterdam. In the other half of the table, the duels include AS Roma against Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad against Manchester United.
