A groundbreaking speed weekend awaits the alpine women's skiers in Kvitfjell. In the four-way battle for the crystal globe, a clearer picture will emerge after the downhill double (Friday, Saturday) with two races still to go. In Cornelia Hütter, unlike in the super-G, there is also an Austrian contender in the hunt. The Styrian wants to have shaken off her World Championship disappointment.

The final training session on Thursday presented an unusual picture. In second place, just 0.04 seconds behind US World Champion Breezy Johnson, Hütter was - unusually for her - well ahead. "We tried something with the material and it was important to me that I made a meaningful statement for my service man. That's why I did it differently than usual in training," said Hütter.

81 points behind Brignone
She analyzed the home World Championships without a medal with a clear view. Three days of training at the World Championship venue after the end of the major event went exactly to her liking. Optimism had already gently returned after the downhill (4th). Although the "Blecherne" hurt, she had managed a step "out of the mini-crisis", Hütter recapitulated on Thursday in Norway.

She feels at home in Kvitfjell. "I've liked the hill since my first time in the European Cup in 2011. I hope it will be a cool race weekend. I'm full of energy." The aim is to convert this into results in order to defend her title in the Downhill World Cup. After four of eight races, Hütter is 81 points behind Federica Brignone and 52 behind Sofia Goggia. Gut-Behrami has 33 points less.
