Ilzer, Hasenhüttl and BVB in action from 3.30 pm

ÖFB team player Patrick Wimmer fired VfL Wolfsburg to a 2-1 win at Werder Bremen on Saturday with his first brace in Germany's Bundesliga!

The Lower Austrian scored from a corner (6th) and with a powerful shot from distance (48th). Mainz moved up to fourth place with a 2-1 win at Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 at FC St. Pauli, while TSG Hoffenheim gained further breathing space in the relegation battle with a 1-0 win at Bochum.

Wimmer doubled his goal tally for the season so far. The 23-year-old now has three goals in the league this season. First, the attacker headed a corner kick into the back of the net from close range. Shortly after the changeover, he took heart after a short dribble and sank the ball into the right-hand corner from just over 20 meters. Bremen's final goal through Mitchell Weiser came too late (90').

Wolfsburg, coach Ralph Hasenhüttl's team, improved to seventh place. Bremen lost their fourth game in a row due to a lack of substitutes and are still only twelfth. In addition to injured captain Marco Friedl, Romano Schmid and Marco Grüll were also unavailable due to illness.

Leipzig let the lead slip
Leipzig took the lead against Mainz after just one minute through Xavi Simons - but the sensational team with ÖFB team player Phillipp Mwene hit back through Nadiem Amri (52) and Jonathan Burkardt (58). Leipzig have won just one of their last seven league games, five of which ended in draws. Christoph Baumgartner was suspended and Xaver Schlager was still injured. Nicolas Seiwald was substituted in the 59th minute.

Dortmund struggled in St. Pauli before the break, but continued their upward trend after the recent 6-0 win over Union Berlin with Marcel Sabitzer in midfield. One week after his brace against Union, Serhou Guirassy made it 1-0 from close range (50') after Karim Adeyemi's follow-up. Ex-Salzburg man Adeyemi himself followed up after winning the ball just inside the opponent's half and then going on a solo run (58'). Dortmund are still tenth. With ten rounds to go, last year's finalists are six points off a CL place, which Mainz currently occupy.

Hoffenheim on course to avoid relegation
Hoffenheim improved to 13th place. Coach Christian Ilzer's team is now eight points clear of Bochum and thus in the relegation places. Tom Bischof scored the golden goal in the direct duel with the help of Bochum goalkeeper Timo Horn, who missed the bouncing shot (72'). Alexander Prass played through for Hoffenheim. There was also an away win in the fifth afternoon game on Saturday: Borussia Mönchengladbach won 3-0 at relegation candidates Heidenheim with Kevin Stöger and Stefan Lainer coming on as substitutes.
