The Bundesliga match between Union Berlin and Bochum is scored 2:0 in favor of VfL after a lighter was thrown at Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes!

This was the decision of the Federal Court of the German Football Association in the appeal proceedings more than two months after the 1:1 in Berlin. The decision changes the situation in the relegation battle. Thanks to the win, Bochum will leapfrog 1. FC Heidenheim by two points and move out of the relegation places.

Union's appeal against the DFB sports court's decision on January 9 was thus rejected. At the beginning of the hearing, the Federal Court had already dismissed the appeals of Holstein Kiel and St. Pauli, who considered the decision to have influenced the relegation battle, as inadmissible.

Match then continued without Drewes
The match was interrupted for more than 25 minutes in the 92nd minute after Drewes was hit by a lighter thrown from the Union fan block. The game then continued without Drewes - as Bochum had already exhausted their quota of substitutes, attacker Philipp Hofmann came on in goal.

Both teams then simply passed the ball back and forth to end the match.

"Will appeal to the Permanent Court of Arbitration!"
After the last instance of DFB jurisdiction, Union can only appeal to the Permanent Court of Arbitration for Clubs and Corporations. That is what they will do, announced president Dirk Zingler, who spoke of a politically motivated judgment to set a precedent: "We are forced to escape the political pressure and will appeal to the Permanent Court of Arbitration."
