Iraqi man brutally beaten next to main road

A brutal attack took place on Sunday night in the Tyrolean town of Zirl: a 30-year-old Iraqi man, who was sitting on a bench with a woman on Seefelder Straße (B177) in the area in front of Zirler Berg, was probably brutally beaten with baseball bats and seriously injured. Several perpetrators are on the run.

The case still poses many mysteries. According to investigations so far, the brutal attack took place late on Saturday evening at around 11pm. The Iraqi, who lives in Innsbruck and was traveling with a woman, had parked his car in the area of a passing zone on Seefelder Straße just before Zirler Berg. The 30-year-old and his companion then sat down on a bench nearby.

Voices suddenly heard from the forest
"Then the two apparently suddenly heard voices coming from the forest. A short time later, the Iraqi was attacked by several unknown perpetrators, presumably with baseball bats," a police spokesperson told the "Krone" newspaper.

Nothing is yet known about the background. The investigation is in full swing.

Seriously injured man raised the alarm himself
The victim suffered serious injuries to his face, but was still able to raise the alarm himself. By the time the police and emergency services arrived at the scene of the brutal attack, the perpetrators had long since fled. There must have been four of them.

Taken to hospital by ambulance
After first aid at the scene, the seriously injured man was taken to Innsbruck Hospital by ambulance. The background to the brutal attack is still completely unclear. The police are investigating at full speed.
