Awards for strong and touching films
The festival of film authors for Carinthia, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and South Tyrol selected the best non-commercial films in Spittal an der Drau. Robert Leitenberger became Carinthian national champion with his film "Shazia, an Indian Bride".
For two days, emotional, outstanding and special films were presented at this year's film festival at Gasthof Kasperle in Lieserstadt, Spittal/Drau. A total of 20 productions, which had already taken first and second place in the respective club championships, were subjected to a rigorous examination by a four-member jury.
Documentaries in the camera's sights
"Idea, cinematic realization, camera, editing and sound are the criteria that are decisive for the overall assessment," explains VÖFA President and Chairman of the Film and Video Club Klagenfurt, Richard Wagner. This year, the categories documentary, cartoon, music clip and nature film were the main focus of the non-commercial film makers.
With the documentary "Shazia, an Indian Bride", Spittal filmmaker Robert Leitenberger has sensitively filmed the forced marriage of a 16-year-old girl over the course of several years and, in addition to the gold medal, also won the title of Carinthian state champion.
Rain of gold medals
With his film "The Bee Whisperer", Franz Wieser from Spittal also received a gold medal in the category "Remarkable Nature Film". Wolfgang Schwaiger's documentary "Zwischen Zugin, Zapin und Zeitgeschichten" about a 96-year-old jack-of-all-trades was named Tyrolean national champion and "remarkable documentary". Another gold medal was awarded to "performance harmony" by Gerlald Tiefling and Hans-Georg Heinke (Film- und Videoclub Villach).
The gold and silver winners are eligible to take part in the Austrian national championships. "The evening once again reflects the high quality of local film authors," said the organizers. The event was masterfully organized by the Spittal/Drau Film and Video Club.
