Railroad experience in Lower Austria: The golden Wachau Railway starts its 2025 season just in time for the apricot blossom. From March 15 to November 30 and from December 6 to 21, it runs for its guests on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and daily from May 1 to November 2.

Characterized by a rich history and extraordinary cultural treasures, the Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an internationally renowned wine-growing region and one of the most beautiful river valleys in the world. The Wachau Railway is part of the World Heritage Site and offers very special perspectives on the diverse cultural landscape. The combination of nature, culture, wine and culinary delights is what makes the Wachau so unique.

A little off the beaten track, between ancient walls, vineyards and flowering embankments, the Wachau has retained its original character. This is the territory of the Wachau Railway. It has been running here for over 110 years and today connects Krems an der Donau with Emmersdorf opposite Melk. The golden railcars with large panoramic windows and the elevated route provide very special views of the unique beauty of the Wachau. Tip: KlimaTicket holders travel at a reduced fare!

Season 2025

In the 2025 season, the Wachau Railway will run from March 15 to November 30 and during Advent from December 6 to 21 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, as well as daily from May 1 to November 2.

Tickets are available in the Niederösterreich Bahnen webshop at webshop.niederoesterreichbahnen.at and directly on the train. Reservations for seats and bicycle parking spaces can be made at the Niederösterreich Bahnen Infocenter.

Thirteen train stations invite young and old to linger, marvel and discover. A Wachau boat trip, a visit to Schallaburg Castle, the Lower Austrian State Gallery or a hike can be perfectly combined with a train ride. A combined train and bike excursion is also an option, as the bike travels free of charge with the passenger on the Wachau Railway (advance reservation required!).

Wachau Wine Spring 
Stress-free and car-free through the cultural landscape of the Wachau during the Wachau Wine Spring on May 3 and 4: from 10 am to 6 pm on both days, guests have the opportunity to visit all participating wineries and taste the exquisite wines of the new vintage. The Wine Spring Ribbon is available from all participating winegrowers and on the train and is also valid as a day ticket for the Wachau Railway. It also entitles you to use the additional trains for the journey to and from the "Steinfeder Night" at Spitz Castle on May 3rd.
