Volunteer rescuers are needed in Lavanttal

The Wolfsberg Red Cross urgently needs volunteer paramedics. The dedicated team therefore invites you to the training room in Krankenhausstraße this Friday (7 pm). A taster session is also possible.

The Red Cross in Lavanttal needs help. An information evening will therefore be held on Friday. There will also be a taster day for those who are not sure.

"Our volunteer paramedics are indispensable! Their commitment saves lives every day and makes the Lavanttal, like the whole country, safer and more humane," emphasizes Carinthia's Red Cross President Martin Pirz. There are currently 150 volunteers, 20 civilian servants and 30 full-time employees working in the rescue service. "We make 25,000 journeys a year. 1000 of these are critical and are accompanied by the emergency ambulance," says Markus Monsberger, deputy district station manager. The 15 vehicles in Lavanttal cover one million kilometers a year.

"In order for us to continue to support the population, we need a lot of expertise, equipment and, above all, courageous, committed people," says Monsberger. A lot has changed: "In the past, people who gave us their time provided up to ten services a month, but today that has been reduced to two services." The need for paramedics will also increase because the population is getting older and older: "We therefore have to make provisions for the future!"

Training to become a paramedic takes 250 hours. Monsberger: "We are looking for committed people between the ages of 17 and 65 who are physically fit and, above all, enjoy working with people." If you are interested, you can also take part in a taster day: "This allows you to experience the work in the rescue and paramedic service first-hand."
