The decision in the Downhill World Cup has been postponed until the World Cup final. Franjo von Allmen won the second downhill in Kvitfjell ahead of his main rival Marco Odermatt (+0.28 sec.). Stefan Rogentin completed the Swiss one-two-three. The best Austrian was Vincent Kriechmayr in ninth place.

The duel for the downhill crystal globe in the men's Alpine Ski World Cup will not be decided until the USA. World champion Franjo von Allmen won the Swiss one-two-three in Kvitfjell on Saturday ahead of Marco Odermatt, with Stefan Rogentin in third. The Austrians are now without a win in 37 races this season. The best ÖSV representative was Vincent Kriechmayr (+1.01 sec.) in ninth place, Stefan Eichberger (+1.08) came eleventh.

Von Allmen beat Odermatt by 28 hundredths of a second and made up 20 points on his compatriot in the ranking. However: he would still have to make up 83 points at the final in Sun Valley to secure the globe in the last race - in other words, he has to win and Odermatt has to miss out on the top 14 or drop out. "A lot of things have to fall into place for me to change my standing. But no matter what - I'll take the season as it is," emphasized Von Allmen.

The overall World Cup winner faltered badly once at the top of the second Kvitfjell downhill and lost time. "It was a run at the limit," said Odermatt. "I completely missed my plan, especially at the top." Friday's winner Dominik Paris skied past the podium in sixth place.

Striedinger secured his trip to the USA
There was a small success for Otmar Striedinger (+1.66), who collected enough points in 18th place to remain in the top 25 of the discipline ranking. The Carinthian can therefore start in the final. For Stefan Babinsky (+1.72), who did not make it past 22nd place this time, this was already clear beforehand. Andreas Ploier (+1.71), who started in place of Lukas Feurstein, finished directly ahead of him with bib number 45. Stefan Rieser (+1.98) from Salzburg scored five World Cup points in 26th place. Raphael Haaser, Vincent Wieser and Manuel Traninger did not compete.

Daniel Hemetsberger was already in Austria, where a lumbago was diagnosed during an examination. This is being treated with medication, the ÖSV announced. The Upper Austrian should be back in Sun Valley.

Kriechmayr not satisfied
Kriechmayr struggled with his performance in his first statement. "It's not going well," said the Upper Austrian in the ORF interview. "It hasn't been working for me all season. I've had one race, that was the World Championship downhill, but otherwise I've been lagging behind all year." Many factors are decisive. "I don't take it for granted that I can push uncompromisingly and I make so many small mistakes, which always adds up in the end."

Eichberger explained that the ride was "quite okay". However, the visibility conditions were not ideal. "It was brutally dark, you couldn't really see anything. That made it a bit more difficult, of course." Nevertheless, it was ultimately a good result, said the Styrian.
