Emma Aicher has celebrated her second World Cup victory in the super-G in La Thuile. The German triumphed on Thursday six hundredths ahead of Italy's Sofia Goggia, whose compatriot Federica Brignone (+0:39) completed the podium. Ariane Rädler was the best Austrian in eighth place, Cornelia Hütter crashed, as did Lindsey Vonn.

Just twelve days after her maiden victory in the Alpine Ski World Cup, 21-year-old Emma Aicher has followed it up with another. The German took the sprint super-G in La Thuile on Thursday. She finished 0.06 seconds ahead of Italy's Sofia Goggia and 0.39 ahead of her compatriot Federica Brignone. Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami, who is 45 points ahead of Brignone in the discipline World Cup, came fourth. The best Austrian was Ariane Rädler in eighth place.

After days of rain, snowfall, fog and canceled downhill training sessions, the slope presented itself from compact to salted - a special challenge for the racers on the shortened course. The criteria during the 58-second run were a wave and the approach to the finish jump, which had to be taken directly. "It's important to have the confidence. It was totally okay for skiing," said Austria's best skier on the day, Rädler (+0.92).

Hütter's crash was minor
World champion Stephanie Venier (10th/+1.25) explained that she "felt too close to the gates". "I skied too aggressively, with too much force. At the bottom I let myself get carried away," said the Tyrolean. Christina Ager finished eleventh (+1.39). Cornelia Hütter, who was on her way to a best time with number twelve, crashed in the wave. The Styrian freed herself from the net and skied off. "I feel my left shoulder a bit. But it hurts more that I was so fast up to that point."

All-rounder Aicher, who came first and second in the downhill races in Kvitfjell, said in the ORF TV interview that she had "simply tried" to "let the skis run". "I saw that there wasn't really anything inside, apart from the wave down here." Overall World Cup leader Brignone criticized herself for her risky run in front of her home crowd. "I was a bit over-motivated, I'm glad I'm still in one piece. Tomorrow won't be easy either, let's see how the weather turns out. But we're an outdoor sport, so you have to adapt." There is another super-G on the program.

After start number ten, the race was interrupted for half an hour due to a medical emergency and repair work on the safety net. A helicopter rescue was necessary, no further information is currently available.
